Middle East Tensions | UN Security Council emergency meeting

Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations has told the Security Council that Iran’s aerial assault against its territory crossed every red line and that Israel would defend its future. Iran’s envoy, for his part, told yesterday’s emergency session that it was acting in self-defence after accusing Israel of airstrikes against its consulate in Damascus, Syria on April 1st that killed key members of its Revolutionary Guard. This as the UN Secretary-General warned the Middle East was on the brink and that now was the time to defuse and de-escalate – a message echoed by several Council members.
