Blast at Iraqi Military Base Housing pro-Iranian Militia Kills One

A blast at an Iraqi military base in Babylon province killed one and injured eight security personnel. The base was reportedly being used by the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) which is a paramilitary dominated by Iran-backed militias. The PMF said it was an “attack”. The US has denied any involvement. Meanwhile, Iraq’s army said it was probing the incident and there were no drones or warplanes in the sky at the time. The blast comes at a time when tensions across West Asia are running high because of Israel’s war with Hamas and the growing conflict with Iran.
