Andy Murray has confirmed he will miss the Wimbledon 2024 singles after he failed to recover in time from surgery on a spinal cyst.

Widespread speculation over Murray’s participation had dominated the build-up to this year’s Championships.

The 37-year-old was slated to face Tomas Machac in the men’s singles on Tuesday, while he and his brother Jamie are scheduled to play Jamie John Peers and Rinky Hijikata in the doubles later this week.

Conflicting reports emerged after Murray was forced to retire from his match against Jordan Thompson at Queen’s Club a fortnight ago with a back injury.

Before that match, British legend Murray strongly suggested that he would play Wimbledon singles for the final time this summer before his retirement from tennis and would enter the doubles tournament with his brother.

After the match, however, it was thought that Murray’s injury would result in a six-week absence and he wouldn’t recover in time to feature at SW19.
