Ian Wright cannot wait for Gabriel Jesus’ return from injury and says the Arsenal striker can spark an upturn in form in team-mate Gabriel Martinelli.

Jesus has not played for Premier League leaders Arsenal in 2023 after suffering a knee injury during Brazil’s World Cup campaign in Qatar.

The former Manchester City striker is at least closing in on a return from the treatment room, having been pictured in training this week as he continues his rehabilitation.

Wright believes Jesus’ return will be a huge boost to title-chasing Arsenal and says it can help Martinelli rediscover his best form.

Martinelli went eight games without a goal throughout January and most of February but scored in Arsenal’s recent wins over Aston Villa and Leicester City.

Despite Martinelli’s recent contributions, Wright believes the Brazilian winger has largely suffered without Jesus and says the ‘whole left-hand side’ of Arsenal’s team ‘has not been working’.
