DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (Gray News) – A cat was caught on camera holding onto a car’s door handle to keep itself above rising floodwaters in Dubai on Tuesday.

A Dubai police officer thankfully came to the rescue, scooping the black and white cat up and putting it safely in a boat.

A year’s worth of rain fell in Dubai within 24 hours, causing massive flooding, The Associated Press reported.

By the end of Tuesday, 5.59 inches of rainfall had soaked Dubai over 24 hours. An average year sees 3.73 inches of rainfall.

The state-run WAM news agency called the rain Tuesday “a historic weather event” that surpassed “anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949.”

Drivers became stranded on flooded streets.

The tarmac at Dubai International Airport was underwater, majorly impacting flights through the world’s busiest airfield for international travel.
