Deadly Gulf Storms: 18 Dead in Oman, Major Flooding in UAE & Bahrain

In a devastating turn of events, the Gulf region has been battered by severe storms, resulting in catastrophic impacts across Oman, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Bahrain. The death toll in Oman has tragically risen to 18, with many of the victims being children. These storms have not only claimed lives but also caused widespread disruption throughout the region.

In the UAE, cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi have been hit hard by the storms. Major infrastructural disruptions were reported, including numerous flight cancellations and school closures. The typically bustling streets were transformed into waterways as severe flooding took over, disrupting traffic and leaving many vehicles stranded. The skies, usually clear and blue, turned ominously dark as the storms intensified, a rare sight in a region known for its sunny weather.

The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology has issued warnings of continued adverse weather, urging residents to exercise caution. Remarkably, some inland areas of this desert country recorded rainfall exceeding 80 millimeters, nearing the annual average rainfall in just a few days. This unexpected deluge highlights the unusual nature of the current weather pattern affecting the area.

Meanwhile, Bahrain faced its own challenges with intense thunderstorms followed by heavy rains and flooding. The situation remains critical as emergency services in Oman also reported two missing individuals, further compounding the crisis. These events have led to a heightened state of alert across the Gulf as authorities and residents brace for even more rainfall.
