Gaza’s largest hospital left in ruins after Israeli siege | SBS News [Video]

A two-week-long Israeli siege of al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza has left the enclave’s largest medical complex in ruins.

The IDF estimated 200 alleged “terrorists” were killed, while the Palestinian health authorities said around four hundred people killed, including patients and civilians.

Witnesses have described a scene of “total destruction”, with buildings burned down and bodies lying in the courtyard.

Videos circulating online show heavily damaged and charred buildings and patients on stretchers in darkened hospital corridors.

Israel says that it conducted a “precise operational activity” in the hospital, alleging that the hospital was being used by Hamas to regroup.

Gaza health officials deny these allegations and critics have accused the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) of recklessly endangering civilian lives and destroying what’s left of an overwhelmed health system.
