House Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson says he is not resigning, despite growing threats from within his own party to oust him.
In response to Iran’s missile attack against Israel, Johnson now says the House must act to quickly get aid to U.S. allies.
Instead of taking up the Senate’s already passed multi-billion dollar foreign aid package, he’s proposing votes on four bills: one each for Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan and the 4th bill a Republican catch all.
“We’re in unprecedented times, we’re in dangerous times” says Johnson.
Johnson’s most conservative members say they have been betrayed.
Kentucky Republican Thomas Massie says if Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene follows through on her effort to remove the Speaker, he’s all in.
Most House Republicans do not support a motion to vacate.
“The last thing the country needs is to throw a speaker out, even though I disagree with what he’s done, he’s an honest man,” said Ralph Norman (R-S.C.).
