Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian reiterated his country had been “exercising the right of legitimate defence” as he argued the attack showed Iran’s responsible approach.

Amir-Abdollahian added: “At this juncture, the Islamic Republic of Iran has no intention of continuing defensive operations, but if necessary, it willl not hesitate to protect its legitimate interests against any new aggression.”

President Ebrahim Raisi argued his country had taught Israel “an unforgettable lesson” and warned that “any new adventure against Iran’s interest would be met with a firm and regrettable response.”

An Israeli military spokesman said the launches numbered more than 300, but 99 percent of them were intercepted.

Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said Iran fired 170 drones, more than 30 cruise missiles and more than 120 ballistic missiles.

Several ballistic missiles reached Israeli territory, causing minor damage to an air base.
