US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has announced he plans to travel to Saudi Arabia and Egypt as part of renewed efforts to bring about a pause in fighting in Gaza.
It comes as the Biden administration prepares to welcome Israeli officials to the US capital to discuss the planned ground offensive of Rafah in the south of Gaza.
US President Joe Biden is said to be “deeply concerned” about the impact on displaced civilians sheltering in the city.
