HENRY COUNTY, Ala. (WTVY) – After the previous monuments were destroyed by a 2023 tornado, new monuments have been put on display at the Henry County Veterans Memorial Park.
Five of the ten monuments were brought down, all honoring fallen veterans with families from Henry County.
Thanks to various donations, the monuments were able to be replaced without costs to the people of Henry County.
The monuments include fallen veterans from the World Wars, Civil War and Iraq War.
“We had folks in Houston County and surrounding counties that just made unsolicited donations. They had heard about it and got that done,” said Henry County Commission Chairman and Probate Judge David Money. “You can imagine the faces on the families of those whose monuments were destroyed to know that we’re going to get it back just like it was. So yeah, we’re very pleased about that.”
