Nepal seeks assistance from Qatar’s Emir for release of Nepali national from Hamas [Video]

Nepal’s President Ram Chandra Paudel on Tuesday requested the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for assisting in release of Nepali national Bipin Joshi, who is believed to be in captivity of Palestinian militant group Hamas following the deadly attacks on Israel last October. Talking to ANI, Kiran Pokharel, Press Advisor to Nepal President confirmed the development and said “the President reiterated safe-being of Bipin Joshi was a major concern and requested Emir of Qatar for heightened negotiations to release him from the captivity.” In response the Emir pledged further efforts for the release of the Nepalese student, local media reports have suggested. Notably, Doha has been involved in mediating a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, which have been engaged in an armed conflict since October 2023. Meanwhile, on the second day of the Emir’s state visit, both countries also signed eight agreements including cooperation in fields of culture, education and sports and for establishing a Joint Business Council.
