Just last month, the New Mexico Democratic party voted to adopt a policy calling for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. After Iran shot missile strikes at Israel Saturday, some New Mexicans are worried violence will escalate. Rabbi Berel Levertov of Santa Fe Jewish Center-Chabad says the United States should stand strongly with Israel. “They should support whatever Israel decides to do, whether it is to go fight back or not. It’s not fair to tell the victim that you shouldn’t fight back because someone else could get hurt,” said Levertov. “It’s still horrible what’s happening. Israel is still being attacked from Gaza, terrorists’ attacks within Israel and the region has been inflamed. Now, maybe, it’s time for the United States and Israel to stand together and push back.”He also mentioned he is trying to do what he can to help here in New Mexico. …
