Addressing the Commons, Rishi Sunak denounced the “despotic regime” in Iran for an alarming escalation in global tensions which saw RAF Typhoons engage in the UK’s first air-to-air combat since the Falklands War.
“With this attack Iran has once again shown its true colours. They are intent on sowing chaos in their own backyard, on further destabilising the Middle East,” the Prime Minister told MPs.
He said the RAF crews who helped defend Israel, as part of a US-led operation to counter hundreds of missiles and drones fired from Iran on Saturday night, were the “best of the best”.
