‘PM Modi Had A Talk With…’: Rajnath Singh On Prime Minister’s Role In Release Of Navy Veterans By Qatar [Video]

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday attributed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s direct intervention the release of the eight Indian Navy veterans who were earlier awarded a death sentence by a Qatari court in an espionage case. While addressing a poll rally in Bihar’s Jamui, Singh said that the convicts were released by Qatar just days after an interaction between PM Modi and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

“Our retired Navy veterans who were working in some companies in Qatar were sentenced to death…PM Modi had a talk with Qatar’s President and within 2-3 days their punishment was reversed and the retired Navy veterans were back in India. This is India’s power,” Singh was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. The former Indian Navy personnel were freed by Qatar in February.
