PORTLAND, Tenn. (WSMV) – Sumner County school leaders say a student is recovering after being hit by a car in the student pick-up line at Portland East Middle School Monday afternoon.
The student, according to a statement from the schools, is stable.
“I’d just walked down here from the church and just seen three fire trucks and one ambulance,” nearby resident Alice Brown said. “I didn’t know where they was going so, I thought I’d just get out and walk.”
Brown didn’t know it then, but first responders were on their way to bring aid to the student who was hit.
School leaders say when they were loaded into the ambulance, the student was conscious, mobile and talking.
Brown says with grandchildren of her own in the school system, it was an uneasy feeling learning about what had happened.
