When the Socceroos went to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup, their point man was Tim Cahill. Officially he was the team’s head of delegation, but secretly he was one of their biggest assets: it was through Cahill’s local connections that they were granted access to the Aspire Academy, the $1.3 billion sanctuary where he is the chief sports officer, and where Graham Arnold’s men could shut out the noise of the outside world and get down to business. And that’s to say nothing of the expertise from his four World Cup appearances that he was able to lend players.
