U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Thursday (March 7) that the U.S. military will construct a temporary port on Gaza’s Mediterranean coast to receive humanitarian aid by sea.
Biden made the announcement during the annual State of the Union speech in front of the U.S. Congress. Some Democratic lawmakers wore ceasefire pins during the speech.
Planning for the operation, initially based on the island of Cyprus, does not envisage the deployment of U.S. military personnel in Gaza, officials have said.
