In his first two plate appearances, Anthony got into deep counts both times and worked walks.

“I just stuck to my approach, stuck to what I do,” he said. “What I try to do best is fight and compete, work the count and get a pitch to hit. I was seeing it well today, so I felt good in the box.”

Several veterans offered advice for Anthony on how to avoid first-game jitters, which he welcomed.

“A lot of them had different tips that they were giving me,” he recounted. “Leading up to it, I did some stuff in the outfield earlier today, in the outfield group.
