Israeli jets bomb eastern Lebanon, a first in 5 months, as Gallent vows increasing firepower [Video]

Israel has targeted eastern Lebanon for the first time since the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

At least three people were killed on Monday in Israel’s three air strikes on the outskirts of Buday village near Baalbek, a Hezbollah stronghold in the Bekaa Valley, about 100km (62 miles) from the Israel-Lebanon border.

The strike on Baalbek, because of its location deep inside Lebanon, is the most significant since the strike in early January on Beirut that killed top Hamas official.

While Israel’s defense minister vowed the attacks on Lebanon’s Hezbollah group would continue even if a ceasefire is reached with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah has said his group’s cross-border shelling would end only when Israel’s “aggression” on the Gaza Strip stops.

The group has been trading fires with Israel military across Lebanon’s southern border in support of its Palestinian ally Hamas.

The current round of the Israeli-Lebanese conflict has caused the displacement of some 82,000 people in Lebanon, according to data released by the UN at the end of January.

Israel, for its part, says that the conflict has caused some 80,000 residents of its northern border to flee their homes.
