Palestinian statehood is the only path to peace

For decades, our nation’s leaders have spoken of their desire for peace and stability in the Middle East. A true and lasting peace requires justice for all peoples in the region. History has shown that policies that seek stability while maintaining a status quo that diminishes one party or another are counterintuitive and shortsighted.

The so-called “Abraham Accords” were touted as peace-promoting agreements by Israel and the U.S. But by design, they sought stability by isolating Palestinians from their Arab neighbors. This only served to further aggrieve Palestinians, making their future even more uncertain and statehood even more elusive.

Israel’s security cannot be bought and paid for through economic deals with autocratic Arab regimes while simultaneously expanding Jewish settlements in the West Bank and doubling down on its occupation of land that’s earmarked for a Palestinian state.
