Could have imagined pollution killing a massive population of an entire city. Unfortunately, this problem is currently prevailing in Beirut, the capital city of Lebanon, which is also the largest city in the country.

The city’s inhabitants are constantly faced with persistent smog, evidence of which is brown-hued clouds dimming the city’s skyline. 

The Guardian reported that roughly 8,000 diesel generators have been powering Lebanon’s cities since the nation’s economic collapse in 2019. These generators can even be heard, smelled, and spotted on the streets. 

Now, the inhabitants are forced to breathe the air polluted by these unsustainable machines.

Scientists at the American University of Beirut (AUB) have discovered, in yet-to-be-published research, that Beirut’s overdependency on diesel-based generators in the past five years …
